The cranio-sacral system is made up of membranes and fluid that surround, protect and nourish the brain and spinal cord which have a direct relationship to the central nervous system (CNS).

Daily the body endures stress and strains (internal and external) that it must work to compensate for. This compensation can cause tissues to tighten and affect the cranio-sacral system. These distortions can then create tension to form around the brain and spinal cord resulting in restrictions that interfere with the healthy function of the CNS. Mental, emotional and physical health is dependent upon the CNS.

With a light touch a trained practitioner is able to use their hands to become aware of the condition of the cranio-sacral system and gently release restrictions influencing the flow of the cranio-sacral system.

If the physical body becomes disturbed, our physiology also becomes disturbed. This changes our housekeeping (our internal environment) and consequently the altered biochemistry disturbs our gait and movement and how we act and think. Correcting the disturbed structures initiates changes so that our body moves towards homeostasis and balance.

Cranial work that uses the fluid approach believes that trauma and other accidents alter the relationship of the fluid body at the cellular tissue and organ levels, putting us out of rhythm with a primary organizing tide. The tide being the cerebral spinal fluid which bathes the neuro-axis of the whole body.

In addition CRANIAL FLUID DYNAMICS developed by Solihin Thom , DO, DAc,further expands craniosacral work by introducing the idea that it is human consciousness that governs structures and ultimately alters the function of the human being, creating states of dysfunction and disease.
